Shawna Hanson

Shawna Hanson serves as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Daktronics, leading the company’s legal and corporate governance functions. She guides the organization through a wide range of legal considerations across the US and globally. Her responsibilities include advising on commercial contracts, enterprise risk management, regulatory and securities compliance, ESG initiatives, and data privacy, and overseeing corporate governance matters for Daktronics and its 17 subsidiaries in her role as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.

Shawna is a trusted business partner to teams across the organization, known for providing pragmatic, business-focused legal advice. She leads negotiations of customer and supplier agreements, advises on complex project‑related legal matters, and coordinates with outside counsel on specialized areas such as litigation and mergers and acquisitions. She also helps maintain strong communication and alignment between leadership and the board. Her approach is grounded in integrity, accountability, and service.

Shawna joined Daktronics full-time in 2007 and has contributed to a wide range of business units and strategic initiatives. A first‑generation college graduate from Flandreau, South Dakota, she brings a grounded perspective shaped by her local roots.

She serves on the Brookings Health System board and is a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga. In her free time, Shawna enjoys spending time with her family – whether it’s catching a movie, cheering on her kids, or relaxing at home. She also values continuous learning and pursues personal and professional growth through reading and online courses.

Shawna holds a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in criminal justice from South Dakota State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Dakota Knudsen School of Law.
