Mike Burgard is Vice President of Information Technology for Daktronics. He leads the company's information technology organization, helping ensure employees, customers and partners have secure, reliable and scalable technology solutions that support strategic growth initiatives, operational excellence and the company's long-term success.
Burgard brings more than 25 years of experience helping organizations harness technology to drive growth, navigate change and operate more effectively. His leadership experience spans technology, cybersecurity and business operations, including service as chief operating officer, chief information officer and chief information security officer. Prior to joining Daktronics, he served as chief operating officer for Rewst, a venture-backed software company focused on automation solutions, and previously held executive leadership positions with Evolving Solutions, Marco Technologies and First Bank & Trust.
Throughout his career, Burgard has led technology modernization and transformation efforts that improve resiliency, strengthen security and align technology investments with business goals. At Daktronics, he is focused on creating frictionless technology experiences for employees while helping the organization identify practical applications for automation, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. He believes technology is most effective when it empowers people to do their best work, and that successful technology organizations are built through collaboration and a deep understanding of the people they serve.
A South Dakota native, Burgard believes the best ideas often come from listening, learning and embracing different perspectives. Outside of work, he enjoys scuba diving, spending time outdoors and traveling with his family, pursuits that fuel his curiosity and appreciation for continuous learning. He brings that same mindset to leadership, fostering collaboration, encouraging growth and creating environments where innovation can thrive.
Burgard earned his bachelor's degree from South Dakota State University and holds Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certifications. He is a frequent speaker on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and technology strategy, and has taught through the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking and other industry programs.
