Steps
- Launch Adobe After Effects CC 2023.
- Open the Adobe After Effects application from your desktop, taskbar, or start menu.
- Go to the start screen.
- If you're opening the program for the first time, you'll see the welcome screen. Here, you can either:
- Click Open Project from the left-hand side of the welcome window.
- Or proceed to the next step if the welcome screen does not appear.
- Open the project.
- From the main workspace, click on File in the top-left corner.
- Select Open Project... from the drop-down menu.
- Browse for your file.
- A file explorer window will pop up. Navigate to the folder where your After Effects project (.aep) file is saved.
- Select the project file and click Open.
- Wait for the project to load.
- After Effects will begin loading the project, which may take a moment depending on the complexity of the project and the system performance.
- Relink missing files (if necessary).
- If any assets (e.g., images, videos) are missing, a dialog box will prompt you to locate those files.
- Click Search, or manually find the files and click OK.
- Verify the project.
- Once the project is open, verify everything looks as expected, ensuring all compositions and assets are correctly linked and visible in the timeline and project panel.
- Start working.
- You’re now ready to start editing your After Effects project!
