VFC troubleshooting guide

Topic

  • Things to troubleshoot before replacing an existing VFC with a spare or a new VFC.

Environment

  • Product: Vanguard
  • Component: VFC (Vanguard Field Controller)
  • Control System:

Steps

  1. If controller is unresponsive to menu commands, turn it off for 1 minute and then back on and wait for it to bootup.
  2. If the controller remains unresponsive, then we recommend replacing at this time. If it boots up and you are able to access it, then continue to the next step.
  3. It is good practice to save the VFC logs before updating the firmware. Send them to transportationhelp@daktronics.com for review. Include your case number in the email.
  4. Update firmware to the latest rev on the VFC (DMP & VIP boards) & VCB board.

  8. VFC: Adjust brightness limiters on the VIP.
  9. VFC: Adjust location settings on the VIP.
  10. VFC controlled display blank; VFCs DMP output resolution is set incorrectly.
  11. Click on the wrench icon in both DMP and VIP and fix any errors indicated by red text.
  12. VIP DNS needs to be set to 0.0.0.0 (or whatever DNS the customer desires).
  13. Unable to post message on display using a VFC
  14. If the VFC shows a connection to display error.
  15. DMP & VIP names need to be differnet if multiple VFC's are on the same network to prevent cross talk.
  16. Restore controller to factory defaults:
