How to configure a VFC controller

Steps
If you don't know your System and Peripheral Configuration, documentation can be located if you have the contract with your sign. by accessing the following link and locating your contract number and manual site configuration.
Verify the DMP and VIP times are correct and synchronized before making any configuration changes. Set the times, if needed, following How to sync time and date on the VFC's DMP board and VIP board using the webpage interface or locally at the controller.
NOTE: On Gen 4 and Gen 5 displays using Bay Wiring, the wiring layout may need to be configured before any other configuration changes are made. Vanguard; Portion of display blank; VFC-generated TT is using incorrect wiring layout
System Configuration
- Login to the VFC.
- Select Shared.
- Select Sign Count.
- Enter the desired number of signs and press ENTER.
- Login to Sign 1.
- Select Configuration.
- Select System.
- Select Required.
- Enter the Module, Type, Height, Width, Access, Display Interface, Translation Table, and Wiring Layout Information.
- Repeat steps 5-9 for any additional displays.
Peripheral Configuration
- Login to Sign 1.
- Select Configuration.
- Select Peripheral.
- Select Add.
- Select Guided Setup.
- Follow the on-screen prompts for the display being configured.
- Select Advanced Setup and use the Up (↑) and Down (↓) keys to add any remaining peripherals.
- Repeat steps 1-7 for any additional signs. (Note: if a peripheral is reporting directly to the VFC, it will only need to be added to Sign 1)
Communication Configuration
- By default, the controller will utilize a Dynamic IP address. If you choose to utilize a Static IP address, proceed to Step 2.
- Login to Sign 1.
- Select Configuration.
- Select Communication.
- Select Ethernet.
- Select IP.
- Select Static.
- Enter IP Address, then press ENTER.
- Enter Subnet Mask, then press ENTER.
- Enter Gateway, then press ENTER.
- Select Static for DNS.
- Enter Primary DNS, if known, then press ENTER.
- If DNS will not be used or is unknown, enter 0.0.0.0
- Enter Alternate DNS, if known, then press ENTER.
- If DNS will not be used or is unknown, enter 0.0.0.0
- Wait for the changes to be made, and then press ENTER.
- Select Status to verify new IP address.
- Follow How to change the Ethernet port number on a VFC for each display, if needed.
