How do I securely transfer content to my Daktronics System?

Topic

  • How do I securely transfer content to my Daktronics System?
  • What are the best practices for file transfer?

Environment

  • Show Control
  • DMP-7000 or DMP-8000

Steps

  • Any content should be verified as virus and malware free before being imported.
  • Think about and choose your method of secured transfer well ahead of time; each method offers advantages and disadvantages.

    • USB sticks can be useful, but pose the risk of carrying with them previously installed viruses and malware.

    • Web browsing to cloud shared sites carry the risk of presenting advertisements with malware on them

  • In order to protect your system from viruses and spyware on your Daktronics system, use secure methods for file transfer.

  • Using unsecured methods of peer-to-peer file sharing, such as BitTorrent is NOT recommended as this can lead to unwanted malware being downloaded to the computer.
  • Since Daktronics Control Systems are for display operations only, it is also not recommended to perform the following tasks on your system. Daktronics recommends you have written directions disallowing the following:
    1. Checking personal email
    2. Checking Facebook
    3. Browsing the web
    4. Downloading files from unknown sources or installing unauthorized applications
    5. Instant messaging
    6. Playing games, etc.
  • If you are unsure as to whether or not a file-transfer method is secure or permitted, contact your IT department.
