New Audiovisual Experience Delivered to Princeton University by Daktronics

Princeton Stadium received new LED video displays and audio system for the 2022 season

BROOKINGS, S.D. – July 11, 2022 – When Tigers fans return to Princeton Stadium this fall on campus of Princeton University in New Jersey, they will be welcomed by a new audiovisual system designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota. The new video display, ribbon boards, digital audio façade and sound system were installed in the summer to be ready for the 2022 football season.

“The new video board and sound system at Princeton Stadium are massive upgrades to the in-venue experience for our Tiger fans,” said Ford Family Director of Athletics John Mack. “This state-of-the-art system will bring the game-day excitement to a whole new level for not only our fans but the student-athletes who proudly represent Princeton on the football field. We are grateful to work with an outstanding partner in Daktronics who understood our goals for bringing a world-class fan experience to our passionate fans, dedicated players and our overall Princeton community.”

As the focal point of the game-day production, the main video display measures 19 feet high by 49 feet wide and features 10-millimeter pixel spacing to deliver excellent imagery and contrast at wide viewing angles to appeal to every seat in the stadium. The display features industry-leading environmental protection to ensure it operates as expected in the outdoor elements.

A SportSound® 2000 audio system was installed to bring a booming audio experience to fans in the stadium. This brings a powerful experience while also ensuring announcements can be heard clearly in the stands. In front of the speaker system, Daktronics installed a digital audio façade. This acoustically transparent LED display is made up of freeform stick LED elements that allow for a digital display to be viewed from one side while letting sound pass through from the other side. The display uses 25-millimeter pixel spacing and measures approximately 5 feet high by 22 feet wide to share additional messaging during events.

“Daktronics is very proud to again partner with Princeton University on this exciting upgrade at Princeton Stadium,” said Scott Willson, Daktronics sales representative. “The new sound system with the LED digital audio façade and the two ‘window’ LED ribbons are very unique pieces to this installation that look great in the environment. It will definitely be a high-octane game-day atmosphere for Tiger fans, sponsors and alums when everyone enters the stadium next fall.”

The main video display is capable of variable content zoning. This allows it to show one large image or multiple zones of digital content including live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics and game information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

Two unique ribbon displays were also included with the installation, both measuring 5 feet high by 43 feet wide and featuring 10-millimeter pixel spacing. These ribbons are custom designed to fit within the windows already in place at the stadium. One is in the upper end zone and the other is along the sideline seating fascia. These displays offer the opportunity to highlight sponsors throughout events while also showing animations and graphics to complement the main video display.

Daktronics has grown with the sports industry from the company’s beginnings in 1968. Today, the company has LED video display installations at hundreds of colleges and universities across the United States.
