How do I set up a MOXA I/O device with a GS6

Environment

  • Product: GS6, GT6, GT6X
  • Components: E1212 MOXA Ethernet I/O, ioSearch software, FileZilla
  • Control System: Venus Control Suite (VCS) locally hosted, VCS Daktronics Hosted

Steps

  1. Install VCS on computer.  (Venus Control Suite Installer Documentation)

  2. Configure DMP to talk to VCS. (Venus Control Suite Quick Guide - DD3016537)

  3. Configure Moxa I/O 

    • Search for the Moxa I/O using MOXA IOSearch Utility v2.0 Download - External Link

    • Select E1212 to show the device settings. 

    • Select Network Settings. 

    • Select Ethernet Configuration and set your network settings. 

      • Note: If needed the password can be changed by selecting change password on the main page.

    • Select Submit.

    • Select Save/Restart.

  4. Configure the DMP to look at the Moxa I/O.

    1. Using a Chrome browser input the DMP's IP followed by /io/#/config.  (Example: 10.11.12.13/io/#/config)

    2. Make sure Enabled and ERTD (DM-100 Mode) is On. 

    3. Select Add Device.

    4. Add the IP address of the Moxa.

    5. Set the port to 502.

    6. Then in drop down select Moxa(TM) iologik E1212.

      1. IMPORTANT If you changed the password on the Moxa add the password by selecting the Key icon (left side of screen) on the I/O services Dashboard page.  (URL example: 10.3.20.20/io/#/devices/0/credentials).

    7. Verify the Poll Rate and Timeout values are set to "0".

    8. Select Save.  

    9. Log into the DMP. 

    10. Click the wrench icon on left side. 

    11. Select RTD. 

    12. Select add Mapping. 

    13. Enter 1 for Sign number and name it Primary/Overlay. 

      • In Data Sources Add DM-100 to the selected sources.

  5. Create your default message and switch messages in VCS.  Content Studio: How do I launch for Venus Control Suite? . 

  6. Select the display tab on the left in VCS and select the display you are working with.

  7. Select layout and associate the layout you created to the display and select save.

  8. Save your switch message (png files) to your desktop.  Note: Messages must be saved as Message 1 for switch 1, Message 2 etc.. These messages are case sensitive.  How to save content studio messages to desktop from VCS

  9. Store the messages to the local folder on DMP. 

    1. Download FileZilla - External Site

    2. Open FileZilla and enter Host name or the display's IP address.

    3. Enter the username and password. 

      • Contact Daktronics for log in credentials 1-800-325-8766.

    4. Select connect. 

    5. Create a folder named Local in this location /usr/share/Daktronics/Content.

      • Note: if DMP controller has 9.X.X firmware then the messages need to be stored in this location srv/dmp/content

      • Newer firmware controllers can be loaded directly under storage which will create a local folder itself (see below)

    7. Transfer your switch messages over to this folder.

  10. Using VCS create an Overlay.  

    1. On the left-hand side click the tools icon. 
    2. Select layouts.
    3. Select new layout.
    4. Name it Overlay.
    5. Select your size sign.
    6. Select continue.
    7. Select zone icon at the top.
    8. Under position set the Height and Width of the sign.
    9. Under "Player," select the radio button for "Blank"
      • By default, set to "Resume." This will cause any default content to appear underneath the Overlay content.
    10. Select Save.

  12. Wire up switches to Moxa and verify switches trigger messages.
