DVN-3001 DVN-3051: Panels not properly aligned, captivated bolt connection

Potential Symptoms

DVN-3001 3051 Panel Installation RA R01

  • One of the rivet heads are machined off
  • Almost no lip/flush on from top surface to front/rear edges (target is 1.0mm)
  • Edge to surface measurement vary side-side by more than 0.75mm
  • Cannot align edge-edge when interconnect bolts tight

⚠️ CRITICAL – ALL panel front edges are aligned with each other.

  • Tops/Bottoms
  • Sides

⚠️ Do not pry on cabinets – make adjustments to substructure for proper alignment.

Cause

DVN-3001 Straight: captivated bolted connection may cause panels to not be able to be properly aligned

Resolution

Remove [knock out with punch or twist off with plier] captive bolt and replace with M6 bolt/washer

  • HC-3464941 BOLT, M6X1 - 20MM LENGTH, HEX SERR FL
  • HC-1090 WASHER, 1/4" FLAT, ZN PLATED, SAE

!!!! Do not over tighten bolts; tighten until panel edges touch

This is found in straight panel seams like shown below.  These are bolted together using the captive screws that are part of the cabinet and it forces misalignment of the panels.

  • As shown below,  knock out the captive screws and use an M6x20mm bolt and washer to properly align those top and bottom surfaces.

This also goes for the horizontal seam as well where the encapsulated bolts force mis alignment. 

  • They will need to be pounded out and M6x20mm bolts and washers used.
It is very critical that those top, bottom, left & right surfaces be completely aligned at all locations for the seams and display to look good.
