Galaxy: Display with DST enabled is off by an hour, Firmware is out of date

Potential Symptoms

  • Display with DST (Daylight Savings Time) enabled is off by an hour.
  • Wrong time/date displaying on the sign.
  • Venus 1500 status shows "DST Enabled - Inactive."
  • Display may be blank or have reports of scheduling not starting or ending when it should.
  • Content in playlist will not appear in "Running Presentations" or "Current Presentation."
  • Scheduled playlist will publish to Stored Presentations but will not appear on the display.

Cause

  • There is a conflict in the firmware of the displays controller with DST and certain timezones after 2015.

Resolution

For Temporary Operation

If using Venus 1500 V3:

  1. Open Venus 1500 V3 Administrator by clicking on the plus sign next to the display type.
  2. Select the correct display that needs to be edited by right-clicking on the display name and selecting Edit V3.
  3. Change the Time Zone setting.
    • For Daylight Saving in the Spring, click on the arrow next to Time Zone and choose the appropriate time zone to adjust the time back 1 hour until Daylight Saving has arrived.
      • If you are in Eastern, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -6:00.
      • If you are in Central, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -7:00.
      • If you are in Mountain, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -8:00
      • If you are in Pacific, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -9:00.
    • For Daylight Saving in the Fall, click on the arrow next to Time Zone and choose the appropriate time zone to adjust the time ahead 1 hour until Daylight Saving has arrived.
      • If you are in Eastern, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -4:00.
      • If you are in Central, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -5:00.
      • If you are in Mountain, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -6:00.
      • If you are in Pacific, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -7:00.
  4. Exit the configuration by clicking OK and then close the Venus 1500 Administrator.
  5. Now to synchronize the change to the display, open Venus 1500 Display Manager.
  6. Choose the display on the left and click Get Status.
  7. When the time synchronization alert appears indicating that there has been a change in time zone, click Yes.
  8. Verify that the time is now correct in the Venus 1500 application display status area.

Once Daylight Saving officially starts on Sunday, you will need to reverse the steps above and set the correct time zone and sync to the display.

If using Venus 1500 V4:

  1. With Venus 1500 V4 open, click on the orange "V" to open the application menu.
  2. Click on Configure>Displays.
  3. Choose the display that needs to be edited and click Edit.
  4. Click the Continue button at the bottom of the display configuration window until on the Set Time Zone page.
    • For Daylight Saving in the Spring, click on the arrow next to Time Zone and choose the appropriate time zone to adjust the time back 1 hour until Daylight Saving has arrived.
      • If you are in Eastern, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -6:00.
      • If you are in Central, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -7:00.
      • If you are in Mountain, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -8:00
      • If you are in Pacific, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -9:00.
  • For Daylight Saving in the Fall, click on the arrow next to Time Zone and choose the appropriate time zone to adjust the time ahead 1 hour until Daylight Saving has arrived.
    • If you are in Eastern, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -4:00.
    • If you are in Central, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -5:00.
    • If you are in Mountain, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -6:00.
    • If you are in Pacific, adjust your time until Daylight Saving has arrived to GMT -7:00.
  • NOTE: Instead of adjusting the time zone you can also uncheck the box for Daylight Saving until it has arrived.

Once Daylight Saving officially starts on Sunday, you will need to reverse the steps above and set the correct time zone or DST settings and sync to the display.

NOTE:  If time synchronization alert does not appear, then close and reopen Venus 1500 V4.

For Temporary Operation (Option 2)

  • Exit the configuration by clicking Continue, then click Finish and close the Display Management window.
  • To synchronize the change to the display, choose the display from the drop-down list and let Venus pull status from the display.
  • When the time synchronization alert appears indicating that there has been a time zone change, Click Yes.
  • Verify time is now correct in the Venus 1500 application display status area.
    • Remove time content from the playlist or adjust schedules to accommodate the incorrect time and republish after 3/13/16 2am, when DST takes affect.
