Digit and Price Displays: New driver installed but display is not lighting; Driver shorted to cabinet

Potential Symptoms

  • Driver has just been replaced and works fine but shortly after replacement the display goes blank.
  • Installed a new driver and the display is not lighting up.
  • Power (+5V) LED is lit on driver (may be dim) but Status LED is off (not flashing as it should be).
  • Drivers that are before and after the suspected failed driver may work properly.

Cause

  • Driver damage has resulted from shorting to the cabinet face.
    • Missing standoff (spacer) or insulator plastic that separates the driver from the back sheet of the display.

Resolution

  1. Power display down.
  2. Add standoff/insulator to prevent driver from shorting on back sheet.
  3. Replace driver with new driver.
  4. Address driver accordingly.  Follow FL-2000/4000: How to Set Line and Face addressing on a Gas Price displays, Driver dipswitch settings  for guidance on setting the Line/Face (addressing) settings.
  5. Power display back up.
  6. Set correct price.
