University of St. Thomas Brings Light to New Multipurpose Arena with Daktronics Displays

Centerhung, video walls and more installed ahead of 2025 fall sports season at Lee and Penny Anderson Arena

BROOKINGS, S.D. – June 30, 2025 – When fans enter the newly constructed Lee & Penny Anderson Arena at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, they will see multiple LED displays from Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, as the University of St. Thomas selected the company to manufacture and install digital displays for this project. Installation is taking place over the summer months and will be completed in time for the arena’s opening on Oct. 24, 2025.

“Daktronics is a global innovation and technology leader, which aligns well with our expectations for both fan and student-athlete experience,” said Phil Esten, vice president and director of athletics at St. Thomas. “St. Thomas Athletics is proud to partner with Daktronics on this transformative project where the overall fan experience and game-day atmosphere reflect the university’s commitment to our stakeholders and bright future.”

Centerhung Display Details

The centerhung is the focal point of the installation and features four curved displays. Each display measures approximately 11.5 feet high by 21.5 feet wide with a convex, outward curvature. Above the main displays, a ring display circles the configuration measuring roughly 4 feet high by 92 feet in circumference. All five displays feature 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing to deliver crisp, clear imagery to fans throughout the arena.

The main centerhung displays are capable of variable content zoning which allows each to show one large image or to be divided into multiple zones of content. This content can be live video, instant replays, statistics and game information, graphics and animations, or sponsorship messages, depending on the event and needs of the university.

“Moving from Division III to Division I is a major transition and this project for Lee & Penny Anderson Arena plays an integral part in delivering the game-day experience the university desires from this move,” said Joey Hulsebus, Daktronics sales representative. “We’ve had a great, long partnership with the University of St. Thomas and are excited to see this new chapter unfold for its athletics program.”

Additional In-Bowl Displays

Circling the action, a ribbon display is mounted to the seating fascia. This display measures approximately 2.5 feet high by 622 feet wide and features a 10-millimeter pixel spacing.

For basketball, closer to the court, five scorers tables combine to measure 2.5 feet high by 50 feet wide and can be moved into any configuration depending on the event. These also feature 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing.

These displays provide the opportunity to highlight sponsors throughout events as well as to provide additional statistics, game information and graphics to keep fans engaged in each event.

Video Wall Details

An all-in-one smart video wall display is also installed at the main arena entry. This display measures 9 feet high by 16 feet wide with a tight 2.5-millimeter pixel spacing for up-close viewing. This versatile display features a built-in operating system for an easy-to-use, operator-friendly experience.

Tying all of these displays together is a Daktronics Show Control solution.
