Huron High School Elevates Live Event Experience with Daktronics Digital Display Installation

Huron Arena and Tiger Stadium bring new light to Tigers athletic events including the largest LED video display in a South Dakota high school

BROOKINGS, S.D. – May 1, 2025 – Huron High School has turned to Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) to design, manufacture and install LED display upgrades inside Huron Arena as well as outside at Tiger Stadium. The installation inside the arena was completed late in February and features the largest LED video display in a high school setting in South Dakota. The Tiger Stadium project will be completed later this spring.

“Our scoreboard upgrades had an immediate impact on the athlete and fan experience at our games,” said Scott DeBoer, Huron High School’s athletic director. “There are unlimited opportunities to engage fans and develop student capacity by making them a part of the production and operational processes.”

“The Huron School District takes great pride in celebrating the Tigers' achievements,” added Huron School District Superintendent Kraig Steinhoff. “Recent upgrades to the scoreboards and displays at Huron Arena and Tiger Stadium will allow us to leverage the latest technology to showcase our students during events. These enhancements will enrich the experience for fans by highlighting our students and their accomplishments.

“The Huron Community consistently supports our schools, students and staff. This unwavering support enables us to strive for excellence in all areas. Go Tigers!”

Huron Arena Display Details

Inside Huron Arena, a four-sided centerhung, end wall video display, ribbon display and three courtside scorers tables were installed to enhance the live event experience. Hanging above the court, the centerhung features four displays, each measuring 7 feet high by 12 feet wide. At the end of the arena, a large end wall video display measures approximately 11.5 feet high by 39.5 feet wide.

Together, these five displays provide all the game-day video, graphics and information fans expect with excellent image clarity and contrast from a tight 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing. They are each capable of variable content zoning allowing them to show one large image or to be divided into multiple zones of content including live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics and game information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

“The opportunity to upgrade the Huron Arena with brand-new Daktronics LED video boards is a game changer for the facility, students, athletes, fans and sponsors,” said Daktronics Sales Representative Kyle Kraemer. “These state-of-the-art displays will enhance the in-game experience by providing crystal clear visuals, real-time stats, dynamic animations and engaging content that brings a new level of excitement to every event.

“This investment not only modernizes the Huron Arena but also strengthens the ability to host premier competitions and community gatherings, ensuring the arena remains a top-tier venue for years to come!”

Supplementing the main video displays, a long ribbon display measuring roughly 3 feet high by 74 feet wide and three scorers tables each measuring roughly 2.5 feet high by 10 feet wide surround fans in the game-day atmosphere. These displays also feature 3.9-millimeter pixels pacing and the scorers tables can be organized in any configuration to meet the needs of Huron Arena and all the events they may host.

Keeping visitors and fans immersed in the action and informed around the arena, 34 LCDs were also provided by Daktronics. A total of 26 LCDs were installed as vomitory displays above entrances and exits to the main seating bowl while the upper west, interior main, upper east and ticket window locations received two LCDs each.

Tiger Stadium Display Details

Stepping outside to Tiger Stadium, fans will see a new end zone video display elevating the football experience this fall. This display will measure 12 feet high by 22 feet wide and will feature 10-millimeter pixel spacing. It features industry-leading environmental protection to ensure it operates as expected in the South Dakota outdoors.

Similar to the indoor video displays at the arena, this display features the same variable content zoning capability to accommodate the needs of this venue and the additional events it may hold.

Rounding out the stadium installation, a fixed-digit scoreboard will be installed to share all the expected information for football games. Delay of game clocks and two backlit identification panels will also be installed to ensure all of Huron’s game-day needs are achieved.

Daktronics also included a complete Show Control solution. This industry-leading control system provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration and playback hardware that forms a powerful yet user-friendly production solution.
