Gary SouthShore RailCats Upgrade Visual Experience With Daktronics Display

The 2026 baseball season gets a little brighter and much bigger in Indiana

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Apr. 20, 2026 – When Gary SouthShore RailCats fans head to U.S. Steel Yard field, they will be welcomed with a new LED video display experience from Daktronics (NASDAQ: DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota. The project is an upgrade to the previous Daktronics display that was installed in 2014. This video display, with Show Control, improves the resolution from 15-millimeter pixel spacing to 10-millimeter spacing and represents a 458% increase in size over the previous version. The display is being installed this spring to elevate the game-day experience in 2026 and beyond.

“We’re excited to elevate the fan experience at the Steel Yard with this upgrade from Daktronics,” said Anthony Giammanco, general manager of the Gary SouthShore RailCats. “This new video board allows us to enhance the fan experience in ways we previously couldn’t. It’s a significant investment by the City of Gary and Mayor Melton to our ballpark and our community, and we can’t wait for our fans to see it in action this season.”

Video Display Details

The new video display will measure 37 feet high by 51 feet wide for a total of roughly 1,880 square feet and will feature 10-millimeter pixel spacing to bring excellent image clarity and contrast to fans throughout the ballpark. It will also feature Daktronics industry-leading environmental protection, ensuring it operates as expected in the outdoor elements.

“Daktronics is proud to partner with the Gary SouthShore RailCats and provide the organization with one of the best video boards in minor league baseball,” said Joe Hernandez, Daktronics sales representative. “The City of Gary will be excited to see the Daktronics product that will provide many wide-ranging opportunities for all events at the stadium. This project will bring the U.S. Steel Yard the chance to engage and entertain fans, while providing a revenue generating resource tool for all parties involved.”

The display is capable of variable content zoning. This allows it to show one large image or to be divided into multiple zones of content, including live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics and game information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

The project includes a complete Show Control solution to deliver the live event experience. This industry-leading control system provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration and playback hardware that forms a powerful yet user-friendly production solution.
