Daktronics Levels Up Esports Experience at UC San Diego

dvLED video wall brings light to matches for student gaming and other events

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Apr. 17, 2026 – Competitive esports events at the UC San Diego (UCSD) in La Jolla, California, have leveled up with a new dvLED (direct-view LED) video wall manufactured and installed by Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota. The display totals more than 7.1 million pixels and was delivered to the second Triton Esports Center, TEC2, on campus in the fall of 2025.

“We could not be more excited about the addition of the top-of-the-line video wall in TEC2,” said UCSD Esports Director Chris Griebenow. “This, in addition to our new 5v5 stage, dedicated streaming space, and 35 top-of-the-line PCs and monitors, opens up opportunities for ranked players and esports spectators alike. This bolsters our program to new heights, and it is phenomenal to see the video wall in action. It elevates the competition to a whole new level and creates a space for gaming entertainment, sponsorship highlights, brand recognition and more. Our campus has definitely benefited from this new addition, and it will be a huge draw for our students.”

Video Wall Details

The video wall measures 5.5 feet high by 21.5 feet wide for an ultra-wide viewing experience. It features a tight 1.2-millimeter pixel spacing to deliver crisp, clear visuals of games taking place, streams of other esports challenges and additional content as needed by the university to serve special events held at TEC2.

“Esports moves fast, and the environment has to keep up,” said Eric Cain, Daktronics sales representative. “This display gives UC San Diego a true competitive stage with the resolution, speed and flexibility to match the gameplay on screen. It transforms the space into something immersive for fans and meaningful for players, which is exactly what today’s collegiate esports programs need to stand out.”

TEC2 can now show live, in-game feeds of their teams and players to viewers in the venue as they participate in matches against other esports programs around the country. The display can also serve as a university branding and backdrop for the space while showing the Tritons’ logo and colors. 

“The possibilities are vast now that this display is installed,” added Cain. “It’s extremely flexible and can be quickly adjusted to fit whatever use the school or esports team can dream up!”
