Continuous Centerhung Coming to the University of Nebraska at Omaha from Daktronics
Baxter Arena will also receive a ribbon display, two video walls and Daktronics Show Control to enhance the live event experience
BROOKINGS, S.D. – June 2, 2025 – When fans return to Baxter Arena this fall on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), they will be greeted by a new video display system designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota. The project is slated for installation this summer ahead of the 2025 fall and winter sports seasons.
“The new centerhung scoreboard, ribbon boards and updated video screens at Baxter Arena represent a significant step forward in enhancing the fan experience and the overall atmosphere of our events,” said Omaha Vice Chancellor / Director of Athletics Adrian Dowell. “Beyond just technology upgrades, these enhancements reflect our broader commitment to using our facilities as a resource for both the university and the greater Omaha community. Our facilities, operations and events teams consistently deliver a premier venue and guest service experience that strengthens UNO’s role as a community partner. With nearly 250 events hosted last year alone, Baxter Arena continues to be a catalyst for meaningful engagement and economic impact in the region.”
“The addition of the new centerhung scoreboard, ribbon boards, and upgraded screens is a game-changer for Baxter Arena,” said Sr. Associate Athletic Director and General Manager of Baxter Arena Michael Smith. “These enhancements allow us to deliver an even more dynamic and immersive experience for our fans, student-athletes and event attendees. It’s innovations like these, paired with our team’s commitment to excellence, that helped earn us the title of Omaha’s Choice Awards Winner for Best Arena and First Place for Indoor Sports Complex in 2024. We’re proud to continue raising the standard for what Baxter Arena can offer the university and the Omaha community.”
Centerhung Details
A continuous video display experience, the centerhung features one large curved display measuring approximately 16.5 feet high by 85 feet around. It features a 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing to deliver crisp, clear images to fans in every seat. The canvas is capable of variable content zoning allowing it to show one large image or multiple zones of content, including live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics and game information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.
“We’re excited to partner with the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Baxter Arena on their new centerhung, ribbon and concourse displays,” said Matt Warnke, Daktronics sales representative. “From the moment you walk into Baxter Arena, Daktronics LED displays will enhance the game-day environment and provide fans with a variety of content and game-day info. We look forward to seeing the system come to life for Maverick fans later this summer.”
Ribbon Board Details
Running along the seating fascia, a new ribbon display will be installed to share additional information similar to the centerhung. This display also provides the opportunity to highlight sponsors and game information throughout the entire inner bowl of the arena. It measures more than 1.5 feet high by 713.5 feet long and features a 10-millimeter pixel spacing.
Video Wall Details
At the main entrance, a video wall will measure 6.5 feet high by 12 feet wide and feature 1.8-millimeter pixel spacing. Additionally, at the north stairway, another video wall will measure 5.5 feet high by 10 feet wide and feature 1.5-millimeter pixel spacing. These displays provide excellent image clarity and contrast for those people standing mere feet away from the display. They are able to share welcome messages, highlights, sponsor messaging dynamic content and other special information depending on the event.
Daktronics Show Control ties together the display system and powers the technology through every event. This industry-leading control system provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration and playback hardware that forms a powerful yet user-friendly production solution.
