Daktronics Bringing New Light To Liberty Flames Football Experience

LED video, ribbon displays installed in 2018 at Williams Stadium

BROOKINGS, S.D. – July 11, 2018 – When Liberty University Flames fans return to Williams Stadium this fall, they will be greeted by new LED displays from Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota. The company designed, manufactured and installed a new LED video display as well as a new ribbon display this spring in Lynchburg, Virginia.

"I think the favorite feature that all of the fans are going to like is the video board," said Dan Deter, Liberty's vice president of major construction. "We're pushing to make sure the game-day experience in the stadium will be complete by Sept. 1, our first home game."

"It is exciting to watch the renovation of Williams Stadium come to fruition," Liberty Director of Athletics Ian McCaw said. "The project is right on schedule, and the facility is coming along beautifully. The final touch will be the new video board in the North end zone. That will make a huge impact."

The new end zone display measures approximately 41 feet high by 74.5 feet wide and features 10-millimeter line spacing to provide excellent image clarity and contrast to energize fans in every seat of the stadium. Industry-leading environmental protection keeps the display operating as expected as it informs and entertains fans, student-athletes and coaches, alike.

Along the seating fascia on the east side of the stadium, an LED ribbon display was installed. It measures 2.5 feet high by 391 feet long and features 20-millimeter line spacing to bring supplemental game information and graphics to the main display. It also offers the opportunity for sponsors to be highlighted throughout events.

"The new LED displays will immerse Flames fans in the action as they share engaging content to supplement the play on the field," said Charley Bocklet, Daktronics regional manager. "We're excited to continue our long-standing relationship with Liberty University for this project and look forward to these displays enhancing their playing atmosphere for years to come."

The end zone display is capable of variable content zoning allowing it to show one large image or to be divided into multiple zones to show any combination of live video, instant replays, game information and statistics, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

The project includes a new fixed digit scoreboard measuring 8 feet high by 18 feet wide to keep fans updated with the score, time remaining, quarter and other standard football information. Delay of game clocks and backlit identification panels were also manufactured and installed by Daktronics.

Liberty has partnered with Daktronics on multiple installations across campus including basketball, baseball, softball, aquatics, track and soccer.
