Installed new or replacement controller and unable to connect with Ethernet communication, IP on controller left as default
Potential Symptoms
- Replaced controller cannot connect, however the display has a heartbeat and goes through the boot up sequence properly.
- If using troubleshooting wizard and Ethernet Bridge Radios (EBRs), it shows a valid connection all the way out to the display.
- The IP in the software of the display does not match the IP on the bootup sequence of the display.
Environment
- Product Family: Message Displays
- Product: Galaxy
- Component: Ethernet based communication
- Control System: Venus 1500 V3 & V4, Display Studio, Venus Control Suite (VCS) with M-Series Bridge
Cause
- New controller IP address is different than previous controller.
Resolution
- Change the IP address on the controller using M2Config to match how the old controller was configured.
- The IP address, subnet mask, and gateway (and DNS info if applicable - used for remote connections) will need to entered/changed on the controller. There are two options:
- Connect through the existing network by setting up a secondary IP address on computer (works on small networks). Reference How to add a secondary IP address to a computer, DD1990270.
- Bypass the network and connect directly the controller/motherboard inside the display by plugging a laptop directly into the Ethernet port on the back of the display.
- Connect with M2config to change the IP address. Reference How do I change a static/DHCP IP address on a Galaxy display, DD1980638.
- The old controller's IP address can be found in the display configuration settings in Venus 1500 or obtained from the site's IT department.
