Can't create a DMP-8000 message in SCS, Won't let you map the DMP-8000 drive.

Potential Symptoms

  • Can't create a DMP-8000 message in SCS. Won't let you map the DMP-8000 drive.
  • When attempting to send a piece of created content to the mapped drive (Z:), an error occurs that indicates the mapped network drive is disconnected.
  • Mapped drive does not reconnect on logon or reboot.
  • Can affect Syncback systems from operating correctly with a Buffalo drive.

Environment

  • Product: Video Displays
  • Component: DMP-8000 - Basic Player
  • Control System: SCS (Show Control)

Cause

  • DMP-8000 is not viewable from the SCS computer.

Resolution

  1. Ensure the Content folder from the DMP-8000 machine is being shared.
    • Win7 = C:\program data\Daktronics\vnet4\content
    • XP = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Daktronics\Vnet4\Content
  2. Click the START button.
  3. Click on (My) Computer. Towards the top of the Computer window, click Map network drive.
  4. In the Map Network Drive window, keep the drive letter as "Z:" and ensure "Reconnect at logon" and "Connect using different credentials" have checkmarks next to them.
  5. Click Browse. 
  6. In the Browse window you will see the DMP-8000-1 computer. Under the DMP-8000-1, select the "Content" folder.
  7. Click OK, followed by Finish.

Alternate Resolution

  1. Navigate to the folder:
    • C:/Users/<user>/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Startup
    • Replace <user> tag above with current User Account
  2. Right click and select New > Text Document
  3. Name the document "mapdrive.bat".  Be sure that the extension changes here.  The icon will switch to gears.
  4. Right click on the file and Edit.
  5. In the file, paste this information:
    • net use <drive letter>: \\<server>\share
      • Replace the tag <drive letter> above with the letter of the target mapped drive on that computer.
      • Replace the tag <server> above with the exact network name of the server device.
  6. Save file.
