Diagnostics: DB-4000 series billboard, Several Frame Displayed Error events, Fiber issue

Potential Symptoms

  • Sections of the display may be blank but issue could ultimately be non-visual contingent on the display and fiber signal path.

Diagnostic Event(s)

  • Loss Of Sync ProLink 6 event (port A or B) on PLR. (Can be on multiple PLR's, and may appear and disappear on PLRs as you watch diagnostics.
  • Checksum Error event on other PLR port. (May not be the case on DB-4200). 
  • Frame Display Error events on VIP. (Could be several).
  • Missed Frame events on VIP.

Cause

Fiber paths between VIP and PLR have a loose connection or bad fiber in place.

  • (Loss of Sync ProLink 6 event on one fiber path leaves the path with Checksum Errors for the VIP to communicate to the PLR with bad data in results in bad data out and causes the Frame Errors on the mods).

Resolution

While onsite, verify the A and B fiber paths between the VIP and the PLR.

  • Re-seat connections on the VIP and PLR and in-between sections.
  • If errors are not resolved, test fiber.
  • If fiber tester is not available, it can be tested by hooking it up as a loopback through the PLR How do I perform a PLR-6050 self test?.
  • If self-test fails, use a known working fiber patch. If still failing, may have a bad PLR.
  • If PLR and all fiber passes self-test, the issue may be in the VIP.
