Ethernet Bridge Radios (EBRs) Server radio's cable is too short

Potential Symptoms

  • Server radio's cable is too short for connecting the radio to the DC injector/Injector of Power Over Ethernet Box.

Cause

  • The server radio is provided with a 25ft non-removable Ethernet cable.

Resolution

  1. Daktronics recommends installing a Cat 5e Inline Coupler.

    • Note: A Cat 5e Inline coupler started shipping with the Ethernet bridge radios (EBRs) on Sept 23, 2014 to assist with installation of the radios.  This was done to remove the need to open the EBR enclosures.

    • Note: The coupler that is supplied by Daktronics is NOT outdoor rated and must be installed inside the building.

  2. Install the coupler to the end of the server radio cable and connect it to a high quality Cat 5e cable going back to the network.  See the following picture for an example.

Note: The maximum distance between the network and the server radio is 328 feet.  See What is the maximum distance of cable you can have between a computer, network switch, or router and the server radio?", DD2265815 for details.  The DC Injector can be installed at any point within that 328 feet, but is not outdoor rated and must be installed inside the building.
