Receive error when trying to use Media Kit; Access Blocked
Potential Symptoms
- Receive error when trying to connect and download the Venus 1500 Media Kit:
- An error has occurred while trying to connect to the ftp site: dakfiles.daktronics.com on port 21." when trying to download the Venus 1500 v4 Media kit. A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or establish a connection failed because connection host has failed to respond x.x.x.x:xxxx.
Environment

Cause
- The computer's FTP access is being blocked or proxy settings are not allowing access or restricted FTP Active and Passive access is set.
Resolution
- Update Venus 1500 to version 4.22.3 or greater.
- Check to see if you can access FTP Sites:
- Open the start menu.
- Type "cmd" and press [ENTER].
- Type:
telnet dakfiles.daktronics.com 21Press [ENTER].
- If you receive "220 Wing FTP Server ready...", proceed to Step 4.
- If you receive "Could not open connection to the host, on port 21: Connect failed", you will need to contact your IT Department to receive FTP Site access or follow the "For Temporary Operation" section below.
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- Note: Firefox, Chrome and Edge discontinued FTP support in 2021 and can't be used to test FTP connection. If Internet Explorer is not available, follow Option 2.
- In the top address bar, type the following the test address posted here: (no http or www) see: https://dlptest.com/ftp-test/
- Press [ENTER].
- If you reach a login page, proceed to Step 4.
- If you are unable to view the test page listed here: https://dlptest.com/ftp-test/ , you will need to contact your IT Department to receive FTP Site access or follow the "For Temporary Operation" section below.
- If you are able to reach the FTP Site, disable Proxy settings.

- Verify the user is logged in as an administrator and try again.
For Temporary Operation
Option 1: If you are unable to get FTP Access with your IT Department you can follow the instructions below to have the Media Kit emailed to you.
- Send an email request to commercialcreativeservices@daktronics.com. Please include the following information in the email body:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Email address
- Company Name
- Daktronics Customer #, Case # or Order #
- Display Size (Height by width)
- Color Technology

- Copy/replace the My Daktronics folder into the proper location on the new computer based on operating system type.
- Use a USB Flash/Thumb Drive to copy the Media Kit to another computer and into the same location.
