Configuring Cloud-Hosted Data Apps for Venus Live and Data Studio

The article outlines the configuration of systems that must support both cloud-connected and local sports data sources. For instance, a venue might use Data Studio Hockey for cloud data and Data Studio Basketball for local data.

 

  • When setting up new systems, it is preferred to set up cloud VCS on most matters. Local will be used as needed only. 
  • The future is going towards the cloud data so this would best set up customers for the future. However, this is not a "call to action" to go back and update existing sites to the cloud environment.

Environment

  • Product: Data Studio Football, Data Studio Hockey, Data Studio Volleyball, Data Studio Basketball
  • Component: Show Control System
  • Control System: Venus Control System

 

Steps

    This setup process is to be completed once during the initial installation and does not need to be modified when switching between the local and hosted data sources. A Daktronics technician should carry out this task.

     

    The DMP should be configured to connect to both servers initially. DMP: How do I configure multiple VCS Servers on my player? 

    Setup hosted VCS in Display Studio. 

    This will allow for a connection to Data Studio for cloud sport data.

    The is done via the Display Studio setup through modify from add/remove programs.  (works with Display Studio 4.10.0.56 or later)
    1. Close down any open Show Control, Display Studio or Content Studio applications. 
    2. Locate the Display Studio under the computer's installed programs/apps. 
    3. Select modify.

    1. When the Welcome screen appears, click Next. 
    2.  In the License Agreement window, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next. 
    3.  In the Database Server window, leave the default database server selection intact ("[Your computer name]\NUCLEUS"), and then click Next. 
    4. In the Plugins window, use the button to designate which plugins should be installed on your computer.  
      1. The Venus Plugin is needed for JSON integration.

    Select your environment for Display Studio. 

    For cloud setups, use Venus.daktronics.com for customers, demo.daktronics.com for internal use

    1. When finished, click Next. 
    2. At the Ready to Install the Program window, click Install. The status of the installation process can be monitored in this window. 
    3. After installation is complete, click Finish to exit the installer.  
    4. Click Yes to restart the computer (if prompted).

        Verify connection to the VCS cloud environment in Display Studio.
        1. Open Display Studio. There will be a prompt to authenticate to hosted via a web browser pop up.
        2. Enter credentials for your cloud or Daktronics hosted environment.  Verify the URL is Venus.daktronics.com.

        1. Once successfully authenticated, return to Display Studio.

        1. In Display Studio, the Status details in the lower left corner will also show VCS authentication.
