Troubleshooting HUB - FLXR4 Radios Intermittent or No Communication

Topic

  • Assist in troubleshooting intermittent or no communication for FLXR4 radios for Fuelight displays.

Environment

  • Products: Fl-3000, FL-4500
  • Components: FLXR4 Radios
  • Control Systems: DM-100

Steps

  1. Verify the server radio is receiving a reliable/steady power.
  2. Verify that there is only one wallpack transformer being used and going to the server radio as the DM-100 receives its power from the server radio.
    • Yes, continue to step 4.
    • No, remove additional wallpack transformer that is being used.
  3. Detect Displays from DM-100 Diagnostics Menu and verify # of networks found matched number of client radios.
    • Yes, verify that you can push price updates to all displays.
    • No, the clients may not have been configured in the server configuration.  Connect via Ethernet to server radio and configure properly, reference step 4.
  4. Connect laptop to server radio to verify settings.  See "Server Radio Setup" section within DD4601945​  for instructions. (Reference the following if needed: How do I install and configure FLXR4 Radio's to control my gas price signs? )
    • Verify that TX Power is set to 27dBm.
    • Note Network #, Channel # and SU #/s on Server Radio for comparison to see if Client Radio settings matches.
    • Continue to step 5.
  5. If there are multiple client radio's present and communication issues are still present isolate to only one by disabling the other clients within the server radio configurations and powering down the associated display/s (if possible).
    • If multiple clients are failing, isolate one at a time for troubleshooting that issue out to the exact failed radio.
    • Continue to step 6.
  6. Access the sign and check/correct the following items. (Reference the following if needed: How do I install and configure FLXR4 Radio's to control my gas price signs? )  
  7. Utilize the Server Radios configuration page and reference the Spectrum Graph Tab and determine if the following needs to be performed or not for a possible interference issue.
  8. Check for possible Incoming Power or Grounding issues.
  9. Verify if the issue onsite is related to a possible Line of Sight issue. 
  10. Call Daktronics Technical Support for further assistance.
