My first week in the field at Daktronics is officially in the books, and wow, what a way to get started! Instead of easing in slowly, I got to jump right into the action and see firsthand how much ground our team covers (literally).

Last week, I headed out with Chris Popowski, Daktronics Sports Marketing Manager, to meet up with Christopher Kretsch, Sales, and from there it turned into a full-on road trip all over western Wisconsin. We spent the week meeting with athletic directors and school representatives, getting a feel for their facilities, goals and what they’re looking for moving forward.

What really stood out to me was how different each stop felt, even though the conversations often centered around similar themes: supporting student-athletes, improving the fan experience and making the most of their athletic spaces. Every athletic director had their own priorities and challenges, and it was cool to see how Daktronics solutions can adapt to fit each situation instead of being one-size-fits-all.

I also got a great look at the relationship side of the job. These weren’t rushed, transactional meetings; they were real conversations. A lot of listening, a lot of questions, and plenty of stories about game nights, packed stands and community pride. It definitely showed me how important trust and long-term relationships are in this role.

On a lighter note, I quickly learned that life in the field means lots of windshield time, relying on gas station snacks and getting very familiar with Google Maps. But, honestly, I loved it. There’s something energizing about being out on the road, meeting people face-to-face and seeing where our products actually make an impact.

By the end of the week, my notebook was full, my brain was buzzing, and I felt way more confident about what Daktronics does and how I fit into the bigger picture. If this first week is any indication of what’s ahead, I’m excited. A little tired, but definitely excited!
