Asheboro High School in Asheboro, North Carolina, is a place where tradition runs deep. With more than 100 years of history and a student body of roughly 1,300–1,350 students, the campus is home to multi-generational families of Blue Comets.
As the district looked for ways to elevate communication, showcase student success, and unify programs across campus, they knew they needed a bigger stage.
That’s why they turned to Daktronics for one trusted source for displays, scoring, sound, content tools, curriculum, and long-term support. Today, that decision is transforming how Asheboro celebrates its students and tells its story.
A New Way to Tell Asheboro’s Story Through a High School LED Video Board
For Superintendent Dr. Aaron Woody, the goal was clear.
We have a lot of tradition to draw from, with community pride, but we needed better ways to tell our story – to lift up public relations and communication and showcase all of our programs.
How can a high school use a video board to celebrate every student?
The school installed two new Daktronics video boards – one on the football field and one in the gym. The result wasn’t just sharper visuals; it was a new storytelling platform for every student in every program. Today, Asheboro High’s LED video boards are some of the most impactful high school displays in the region.
“Daktronics was a great partner for us to look at what we could be and tell our story through our scoreboard and digital technology enhancements,” Dr. Woody said.
What Makes a High School Video Board System Work Seamlessly? One Trusted Source.
Asheboro selected Daktronics because they wanted a complete, integrated system that combined the video board, scoreboard, sound system, and control system with curriculum and creative support. This ecosystem ensures everything works seamlessly on game day, at school events, and during student-run productions.
To support their new sports media initiatives, the school implemented:
- DakClassroom, a CTE-aligned curriculum that teaches real production skills
- FrameWrx, a content solution that gives students professional, customizable templates
- Daktronics Sports Marketing, helping schools fund and sustain their AV investment
Athletic Director Wes Berrier shared:
I would definitely recommend Daktronics, namely because of all the different departments – the marketing department, the support system, DakClassroom, FrameWrx. Those are the components that make Daktronics successful.
Students Behind the Screen: A Sports Media Program Takes Off
What can students learn by running a high school video board?
A lot – and Asheboro is proving it.
Through their new sports media class powered by DakClassroom, students have the opportunity to learn:
- Camera operation
- Instant replay
- Live event directing
- Graphics and motion content
- Social media production
- Game‑day operations
With FrameWrx, they create professional-looking content that plays on the board and online. Students are actively telling the school’s story, elevating athletics, arts, activities, and achievements.
Every student sees themselves on the screen, not just athletes.
A Video Board that Serves Every Student and Every Program
The transformation at Asheboro goes far beyond football games.
They now use the video board for:
- Field days
- Graduation ceremonies
- Movie nights (complete with refreshments and student hangouts)
- Recognizing academic achievements
- Showcasing fine arts and extracurriculars
- Community events
Every student gets a moment in the spotlight. Every program gets visibility. Every family feels connected.
Dr. Woody summed it up best:
In some of the most simple ways, it’s a scoreboard. But the kind of impact it has on kids, on the community, on people believing in the work we’re doing – it’s unquantifiable. We’re thrilled with the partnership.
