Over the past year, Daktronics has taken a close look at how products are packaged and shipped, identifying opportunities to reduce material use while maintaining the protection and quality our customers expect. The result is a smarter, more sustainable approach that benefits both the environment and our business.
Reducing Waste Through Smarter Packaging
As part of this initiative, Daktronics implemented the Packsize cardboard box system in its repair center, allowing packaging to be right-sized for each shipment. In addition, excess cardboard generated in our operations is now shredded and reused as protective packing material. These changes significantly reduce the need for non-recyclable foam.
By transitioning to recyclable and renewable options such as crinkle paper and molded pulp, Daktronics is minimizing waste and reducing its reliance on materials that are more difficult to recycle. Fewer materials used means less waste generated and a smaller environmental footprint overall.
Sustainability That Delivers Business Value
Packaging optimization isn’t just good for the planet. By prioritizing recyclable materials and using packaging more efficiently, Daktronics has realized meaningful cost savings across its shipping operations.
From Q2 2025 to Q2 2026, these improvements contributed to a $132,000 reduction in shipping costs. Those savings can be reinvested into continued innovation, product quality, and customer experience.
