How do I use the pause, stop and resume commands in Display Studio

Question

  • How do I use the stop and resume playlist commands in Display Studio?
  • How do I pause content while I cover it with something else?
  • What is the stop command for in Display Studio?
  • What is the difference between Stop and Pause in DMP-8000 Player Control?

Environment

  • Product Family: Software; Control System
  • Product:
  • Components: Display Studio, Show Control 2.14.1.6+, DMP-8000
  • Control System: Show Control System (SCS)
If a playlist needs to be stopped for an alternate message, the stop and resume can be used so the playlist does not need to restart at the beginning.  Stop would be used in place of Pause; the difference in functionality being that, once resumed, the item that was stopped would start over at the beginning instead of where it was paused.

Answer/Steps

Creating a button to stop or pause a playlist or file

Create a new script button or edit an existing button.  For details, see: How to Create Scripting Containers and Buttons.

  1. Create a new script line.

    1. DMP-8000 Player Control or DMP-7000 Player Control
    2. Choose the zone(s) that the playlist is running on.
    3. Choose Stop OR Pause
      • Stop: starts at the beginning of the content when resumed, no matter where it was in playback when stopped
      • Pause: resumes at the exact place it was paused
    4. Save.

Create a button to resume the playlist or file

  1. Create a new script line.

    1. DMP-8000 Player Control or DMP-7000 Player Control
    2. Choose the zone(s) that the playlist is running on.
    3. Choose Resume.
    4. Save.

When the playback of an item that was stopped and resumed is reported in Proof of Play in Venus Control Suite, it will show it as playing only a single time for it's actual duration. For example, a 15 second animation was stopped 3 seconds into playing via a playlist to play a prompt over top. It was resumed once the prompt was blanked. It started back at the top and finished playing it's full 15 seconds. In the report, it will show as playing 1 time for a duration of 15 seconds. If the graphic was paused instead of stopped, Proof of Play will not count the amount of time it was paused for; thus, reporting the duration of the file itself.
