High-Resolution Imagery Delivered for Joint Medical Operations Center from SOLUTE, Daktronics, Crown Point Systems and NIWC Pacific

1.2-millimeter narrow pixel pitch display a focal point of operations

BROOKINGS, S.D. – May 4, 2021 – Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, through a partnership with defense contractor SOLUTE, AV integrator Crown Point Systems and system designer NIWC Pacific, has manufactured and installed a 1.2-millimeter narrow pixel pitch LED display for the Joint Medical Operations Center (JMOC) in San Diego, California. The installation was completed this winter and is currently operational and the focal point for medical uses inside the Virtual Medical Operations Center (VMOC).

"The video wall that has been installed at the Operation Center here allows us to have a cohesive, complete view of the entire picture of a very complicated battle space - this is the cutting edge," said Mark Griffith, director of nursing at JMOC.

The VMOC consists of custom graphical interfaces, high-end audiovisual systems, multiple calling video teleconferencing systems and large displays feeding content to assist the Navy in Tele-Critical care operations. The video wall serves as the primary focus for all staff and leadership of the VMOC, where they will have the capability to feed multiple sources ranging from high-end computers, multi-site video teleconferencing systems as well as broadcasting devices reporting national and local news.

The video wall has a custom layout which will give the VMOC staff multiple video feeds that will assist in potential life-saving support and training. The video feed assists in Tele-Critical care aspect of the staff's day-to-day operations allowing for efficiency and solutions for overall patient and staff support.

On display performance, John Sublett, director of federal sales for Crown Point Systems, says, "Because this display is being used by medical staff in a remote position, it's so important that these displays are reliable because if you're doing a surgery, you really need no pixel loss and the colors have to be accurate if you're evaluating the color of a result."

The high-resolution LED display measures 4.5 feet high by 18 feet wide and features 1.2-millimeter pixel spacing to bring crisp, clear imagery to critical information shown inside the medical facility. At 1080 pixels high by 4320 pixels wide, the technology shows seamless detail at a distance of mere feet away from the display face ensuring pixel-accurate imagery is shown.

"This is going to be the crown jewel for tele-critical care," said Andrew Stone, program manager for SOLUTE. "The medical staff will be able to use this display for life-saving support and training as one central point of contact for the tele-critical care staff to do their jobs."

"Working with Crown Point Systems and SOLUTE, we were able to ensure the technology we provided fit the use-case of JMOC and maximized the interactivity and usefulness of the display while also capitalizing on the opportunity the room provided," said Phillip Reyes, Daktronics regional sales representative. "This is a fantastic installation and the way they are using this display for medical purposes is nothing short of sensational."

Daktronics offers a line of narrow pixel pitch LED displays including 1.9-, 1.5- and 1.2-millimeter line spacings. This product line brings expansive opportunities to those spaces commonly associated with LCD technology to create luxurious environments, share artistic digital content or show detailed, high-quality video.
