No connection to the DMP and/or the VIP, CAT5 plug pushed too far into its plastic connector

Potential Symptoms

  • DMP and/or VIP Offline in Venus Control Suite.
  • Unable to connect to the DMP and/or the VIP.
  • Connections are clean. Re-seating the cables does not help.
  • Power cycling the equipment does not help.

Cause

  • The end of the network cable has a plastic connector the plug sticks out of.
  • The plastic connector twists on to another plastic piece on the controller with the Ethernet jack in it.

  • Sometimes the plug is pushed too far into the connector.
  • We can physically connect the plastic pieces but the CAT5 plug isn't getting a good connection to the CAT5 jack on the controller.

Resolution

  • Pull the plug out from the plastic piece far enough that its locking tab is able to pop up.
  • Reconnect the cable to the controller.
