Billboard display with large outages and not getting good power out of the breakers, Loose 50 Amp Contactor.

Potential Symptoms

  • Large outage on the billboard due to no power from the breakers in the term panel.
  • May only effect one leg of power.
    • Breakers on the B leg are outputting correctly but no output on the A leg breakers.
  • Power cycling the contactor may restore power, but putting on the breaker cover or door will causes display to go blank.
  • Issue may have occurred after a new install or moving the display.
  • 120 VAC is present across the white and purple wires going into the contactor.

Cause

  • Contactor is not fully seated cause intermittent connection to the breaker that power the mods.
    • Contactor connection likely effected by shipping of the display.

Resolution

  • Cut power to the display and reseat the contactor and reseat the power connections on the contactor.
    • Replace contactor as needed if it is damaged or not working properly.
