Privacy Error "Your connection is not private" when connecting to a locally installed Venus Control Suite (VCS) from another machine

Potential Symptoms

  • When trying to connect to a local hosted VCS from a different machine, you get a privacy error message stating "Your connection is not private"

Environment

  • Product Family: Software; Control System
  • Product: Venus Control Suite version 20.4.2402.0 or later
  • Component: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari
  • Control System: Venus Control Suite Locally Hosted

Cause

  • The machine being used to connect to Venus Control Suite does not have the proper certificate installed

Resolution

Note: These steps will vary slightly depending on the web browser being used.

  • Click the advanced button on the privacy error and select proceed to site
  • Login to VCS and click on the settings icon in the left navigation bar 
  • Select Certificate and click on the Download button
  • Select Keep if prompted
  • Open the certificate and click on the Install Certificate button
  • Select Current User and click Next
  • Select the Place all certificates in the following store
  • Click the browse button and select the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" folder and click the ok button
  • Click Next
  • Click Finish
  • Click Yes on security warning popup
  • Click OK on cert import popup
  • Close all browser windows
  • Open new browser window and navigate to Venus Control Suite
  • You should no longer be prompted with a privacy error

  • Click the advanced button on the privacy error and select proceed to site
