Multiple default gateways causing connectivity issues when configuring multiple adapters
Potential Symptoms
- Received the error:
"Warning- Multiple default gateways are intended to provide redundancy to a single network(such as an intranet or the internet).
They will not function properly when the gateways are on two separate, disjoint networks (such as one on your intranet and one on the internet).
Do you want to save this configuration?"
- Default gateway for Ethernet adapter in ipconfig /all is "0.0.0.0".
- Unable to remotely connect to a newly configured network adapter.
- Cycling power does not resolve issue.
Environment
- Product Family: Billboards
- Product: DB-4200
- Component: DMP-8065
- Control System:
Cause
- When multiple default gateways are used in TCP/IP configuration options on a Windows NT computer, connectivity to computers on remote networks may be lost.
Resolution
- Network configuration needs to be added via the Command Line Interface.
- NetworkAdapterConfiguration.bat
- Open the attached batch file "NetworkAdapterConfiguration.bat" in notepad.
- Do not execute the file.
- Change the following
- Set connectionName = to the name of the connection you want to modify.
- For example connectionName = "Local Area Connection"
- Replace x.x.x.x of the variables with the following:
- Set ipAddress = to the IP address of the Host IP that will be reached remotely.
- For example ipAddress=192.168.1.100.
- Set subnetMask = to the subnet mask number with four octets.
- For example subnetMask=255.255.255.0.
- Set defaultGateway = to the four octet IP number for the primary DNS server.
- For example defaultGateway=192.168.1.1.
- Set alternateDNS = to the four octet IP number for the alternate DNS server.
- For example alternateDNS=8.8.8.8.
- Set ipAddress = to the IP address of the Host IP that will be reached remotely.
- Save the file onto the target computer as a .bat file, and run the batch file to change the network adapters configuration settings
- Unplug and replug the Ethernet connection to verify the changes have taken place.
- This can be done manually by running the commands in the batch file line by line in the command line.
