Resolution stuck at 640x480 on the computer. Using AMD Radeon card.

Potential Symptoms

  • Computer monitor will not allow any resolution except 640x480.
  • When unplugging KVM connection multiple values become available, but connecting back to the KVM will ONLY have 640x480.

Cause

  • AMD Radeon settings no longer have alternate resolutions available.  Possibly due to Windows updates.  ***May state 640x480 is Maximum Resolution.

Resolution

  1. Open AMD Radeon Settings from taskbar and enter the "Display" tab.  From there, create a Custom Resolution of the desired format (i.e. - 1440x900) and save the new format.2019-12-04_13-03-13.png
     
  2. Open Windows Display Properties and modify the desktop background resolution to the newly generated format (i.e. - 1440x900 or 1920x1080).
  3. Enable EDID Emulation to keep custom resolution across reboots.
