Unknown Encrypt Algorithm Error in Tera Term

Cause

  • Proper cipher is not showing correctly in Tera Term

Resolution

  • In Tera Term, click on Setup menu and choose SSH...
  • In the Preferred cipher order window, scroll down and see if you can locate AES128-CTR(SSH2) and AES256-CTR(SSH2)
  • If you can find them and they are showing below the entry that says <ciphers below this line are disabled>, highlight each one and click the Move Up button until they are above that line
  • If you cannot find either of those entries in your cipher list, you will need to update Tera Term to version 4.62 or higher
  • Once updated, perform the steps above to get the cipher order correct
  • Once the cipher order is correct and the two entries are above the disabled line, click the OK button

  • Click the Setup menu and choose Save Setup
  • The save window should bring you to the program files x86 location for Tera Term
  • You will need to overwrite the TERATERM.INI file so your cipher order changes stay
