Data Vision Software (DVS) cannot be started; Error showing on display after boot up

Potential Symptoms

  • DVS Server error: "DVS cannot be started.  This usually means either another DVS system is running or you need to run as administrator."
  • DVS works if you right click and run as administrator, but not from boot up.

Environment

  • Product Family: Transportation
  • Product: AF-6710 and LS-1000 displays using a Windows 10 SBC
  • Component: SBC
  • Control System: DVS

Cause

  • Startup folder is not running the DVS BAT file as Administrator.

Resolution

  • Remove the BAT file from the startup folder and run it with Task Manager instead.
    1. Disable the write filter.
    2. Remove the BAT file shortcut from the startup folder.
      • Launch the RUN program.  (Use the Windows+r shortcut or search for it in all programs.)
      • Type shell:startup and select ok
      • Delete the DVS shortcut
    3. Schedule a task to Launch DVS.
      • Click the Start icon, search for Task Scheduler, and launch it. 
      • From the Action tab select Create Basic Task.
      • Give the task a name and select next.
      • On the Triggers window, select "When I log on" and hit next.
      • Select "Start a Program" from the Action window.
      • Browse to the DVS BAT file and hit next .
        ( Default location: C:\Program Files\Daktronics\DVS\DVS_SERVER_XXX)
      • Check box next to open properties of task after creation is finished.
      • Select Finish
      • In the properties window, check "Run with highest privileges" and hit OK.
    4. Enable the write filter using the correct KB above.

For Temporary Operation

  • Right click DVS server and run it as administrator.  The sign will continue to work until it is rebooted.
