Receiving MULTI string error "Text too big" when sending message to VFC

Potential Symptoms

  • When sending a message from Vanguard Software to a sign with a VFC a multi string error "Text too big" occurs.

Environment

  • Product Family: Transportation
  • Product: Vanguard
  • Component: VFC
  • Control System: Vanguard Professional Software

Cause

  •    The message created in Content Studio is either too big and touching the yellow perimeter lines.
  •    Or, the configuration on the VFC controller is not correct for the size of the sign.
  •    Or, the Configuration of the NTCIP Profile in the Vanguard Software does not match the controller for the sign.

    Resolution

    • If the message is too big then edit or recreate message in Content Studio to be within the yellow perimeter lines.
    • If using a date/time/temperature field make sure to preview the message to ensure the actual data does not go beyond the green field lines.

     OR

    • If the VFC had incorrect size settings configure the size to match. 
    1. Log into the VFC and go to option 1 - Sign 1.
    2. Then choose Configuration.
    3. System Configuration.
    4. Required.
    5. Edit the pixel height and or width to match the sign.

    OR

    • If the Configuration of the NTCIP Profile in the Vanguard Software does not match the controller for the sign.
    1. Log into Vanguard Software and go to the tool tab.
    2. Select system configuration.
    3. Select manage displays and highlight the display having the error.
    4. Click on edit properties.
    5. If the NTCIP Profile does not match the controller select Change Profile.
    6. Click Select existing profile and select the correct NTCIP Profile in the drop down list.
