Communication Error in Venus Control Suite; Incompatible network switch speed

Potential Symptoms

  • Unable to connect to the display in VCS.
  • DMP and VIP are offline in VCS.
  • Display went offline right after IT made equipment changes to the network.
  • Ethernet link light on port not lit when sign is connected to switch, but will light up for the laptop.

Cause

  • Replacement network switch cannot auto negotiate or is not capable of communicating on a slower speed for the sign.

Resolution

  • IT personnel to manually set the speed of the switch to a range that works for the display (example: 10mbs instead of 100mbs).
    • Replace with a switch of compatible speed for the display if unable to manually configure.
