Getting error "Venus 1500 has stopped working" when opening Venus 1500, core Windows dll is corrupt

Potential Symptoms

  • Getting error "Venus 1500 has stopped working" when opening Venus 1500.

  • Event viewer is showing Event ID: 1000 with the source of Application Error.
    • Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Daktronics\Venus 1500 V4\Venus1500.exe
    • Faulting module path C:\Windows\syswow64\KERNELBASE.dll
    • 1062866_use in KB_2018-07-18_12-15-36.png
  • Venus 1500 splash appears but does not open up the window, it just closes.
    • No faulting module code but it does have exception code c0000005, exception address 00000000

Cause

  • KERNELBASE.dll is corrupt.
  • If the faulting path is 0000000, it may be a hard drive hardware failure.
     

Resolution

  • Unknown - The dll in question is a core Windows OS file and require advance knowledge to repair without risk of damaging the system. Daktronics software technicians are not qualified for advanced IT work. A certified IT professional should be contacted on repairing corrupt core Windows OS files.

For Temporary Operation

Install the Venus 1500 software on a separate computer if the faulting module path cannot be resolved.
