The SSR-AM Announcer's Mixer doesn't get loud enough or sounds distorted

Potential Symptoms

  • The SSR-AM Announcer's Mixer either doesn't get loud enough or sounds distorted.  Can also be described as being too quiet or sounding bad.

Cause

  • The OUTPUT PAD switch on the back of the Announcer's Mixer is set incorrectly for the application the SSR-AM is being used for.

Resolution

Set the OUTPUT PAD as follows for proper integration into the audio signal path:

  1. When the Announcer's Mixer is being used as an input to another mixer, the OUTPUT PAD button should be set to the IN position.  This enables a 30dB output reduction to prevent the SSR-AM from overdriving the input of the mixer.  If the button is in the OUT position in this application, the audio can sound distorted and the announcer and music will sound bad.

  2. When the Announcer's Mixer is being plugged in directly to an amplifier, fiber box, or system input without using another mixer, the OUTPUT PAD button should be set to the OUT position.  This disables the 30dB output level drop to provide a full output that is enough to drive an amplifier or sound system input.  If the button is in the IN position in this application, the output level will be too low and the sound system will sound quiet and seem like there isn't enough volume.
