Steps

Steps

Screenfeed is a digital solution platform that allows users to display various approved social media via posts, streams, photo walls, etc. Daktronics digital media players can take a Screenfeed generated URL and display it on your video board via web page playback.

Web page playback is an advanced feature of the DMP-8000 player that seamlessly incorporates social media onto multiple displays throughout a venue.

Note

In 2019, our agreement with Screenfeed ended; discounted pricing for Daktronics customers is no longer available and we no longer quote/ order this solution through Daktronics. The customer can still choose work with Screenfeed directly for a monitoring solution, though pricing differences should be expected. For alternate options to Screenfeed, see the bottom of this article.

To Create a Screenfeed Stream

  1. Log in with your Screenfeed credentials to access the Home Screen
  2. Once on the Home Screen, select Create New Feed Configuration
    Step 1.png
  3. Begin by choosing a name for the feed. For example, if the feed will come from your school's twitter account, identify it as Daktronics HS Twitter
    Step 2.png
  4. Choose HTML as the delivery method for the feed. The URL created by Screenfeed will be needed for the DMP-8000 to display the web page.
    Step 3.png
  5. Choose a layout for the feed. Daktronics strongly recommends Post for all sources. This can be modified after previewing.
    Step 4.png
  6. Next, you will need to choose what content you want the feed to contain, how you want it to look, and how you would like the feed to be moderated. Choose Begin Content Selection to start editing.
  7. Choose a source from Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook by selecting the source icon. Your feed can be modified later to have 2 or all 3 sources.
  8. Screenfeed will ask what posts from the source you would like to display. Hovering over each type will give an explanation of what posts will be featured.
    Step 7a.png
  9. Once the source and type of posts have been selected, Screenfeed will take you to the editing page.
  10. Under the Content tab:
    1. You can choose to add more sources and/or remove what you are currently displaying.
    2. You can slide the filters on/off to exclude or set parameters for each post displayed. If you don't select randomize, the feed will always start with the same picture when you play the Screenfeed Stream.
    3. Once changes have been made and saved (select the red Save Changes button), you can load a preview of what posts will be seen.
      Step 8.png
  11. Under the Design tab:
    1. You can select the colors used for the background of the feed as well as accent colors and text colors. This is done by selecting the box next to the feature and then choosing the color from the color palette. You can also type in the hexadecimal notation of a color to get an exact color. The Sample will change as you make selections to give a real time preview.
    2. Choose if you want the feed in 16:9 or 9:16 shape. 16:9 will be the most common selection.
    3. The drop down underneath layout will allow you to edit how the feed looks. You can again choose from Stream, Post, Photo Wall or Photo Grid.
    4. Underneath HTML Animation, you can edit how long the intro for Screenfeed will last (type 0 if you want the feed to start without an intro) and how long each post will be displayed. Daktronics recommends 10 to 15 seconds per post.
    5. You can slide the filters on/off to exclude or set parameters for what each post will look like.
      Step 9.png
  12. Under the Moderation tab:
    1. Select Require Pre-Approval to manually approve each post displayed. This option gives the most control for the feed, but it requires an operator to select each post that will be displayed.
      1. Active moderation will need to be done from a computer (can be from the Show Control Computer or a separate computer) or mobile device. Log in to your Screenfeed account and go to the social apps feeds. Then, on the feed you will be displaying, select moderate.
    2. Select Remove Published Posts and the type of posts you select will automatically be published to the feed. You can remove posts as needed, but everything will be posted without a preview.
    3. Click Start Moderating to choose which posts are viewed or remove any unwanted posts.
      Step 10.png
  13. Once you have edited the Content, Design and Moderation tabs, click the back arrow next your Screenfeed name (hovering over it will display Back to Feed List) to go back to the Home Screen.
    Step 11.png
  14. From the Home Screen, you will see your published feed listed. From here, you can choose to Edit, Moderate or Delete the feed. Selecting Copy URL will take you to the published feed. This URL is what you will need to copy and use for web page playback to your video board.
    Step 12.png.

To Display Screenfeed via Web Page Playback

  1. Verify that DMP-8000 computer has access to hard-wired Internet connection (Wi-Fi or Internet on Show Control only is not sufficient).
  2. Reference How do I play back a web page on a DMP-8000 Player? to create a URI file to be played from Display Studio.
  3. If needed, extra parameters can be added to the URI file to zoom into the webpage.
    1. Open the URI file containing the URL provided by ScreenFeed.
    2. Add in the command line ?zoom=&x=&y=
    3. After the =, type in the zoom times (this will zoom into the webpage starting in the top left corner), the x and y (will be negative) start coordinates
      1. e.g. ?zoom=1.1&x=-170&y=-120
      2. Your complete URI with zoom added should look like this example

Content Monitoring

  • If the customer would still like to share and monitor Tweets onto their display, there is a manual way to complete this action. As the customer monitors their Twitter account, they can use a "snipping tool" to screen grab the desired Tweets and format as jpeg or png files.
  • Save said screen grabs to the DMP player using the below file names;
    • File Name Examples:
      Tweet1.jpeg
      Tweet2.jpeg
      Tweet3.jpeg
      Tweet4.jpeg
    • The screen grabs should be 16:9 ratio and low resolution for the best clarity onto the display.
    • They can then bring the image files into Content Studio and add a background graphic to help with scaling to the video content or sidebar zones- full screen option is not suggested.
    • Repeat the process for any new Tweets to be displayed.
