Time incorrect on computer and cannot sync to time servers; Cause unknown

Potential Symptoms

  • Time on billboard computer is incorrect.
  • VIP may show No Content After Sunrise event in IDM.
  • When trying to change NTP server settings getting error:
    "Unable to continue - You do not have permission to perform this task. Please contact your computer administrator for help."
  • When trying to manually sync the computer to a time server get the following error:
    "An error occurred getting the status of the last synchronization. Element not found."
  • Able to ping the NTP servers listed and port 123 is not being blocked.
  • Windows Time service in the Services console is running and may be set to manual.

Cause

  • Unknown.

Resolution

  1. Run the following commands in an Administrator elevated Command Prompt:
    net stop w32time
    w32tm /unregister
    w32tm /register
    net start w32time 
    w32tm /config /update
  2. Try to manually synchronize the time server again from the Date and Time panel, or by running the following command:
    w32tm /resync /rediscover
  3. Go to the Services console and change the Windows Time service to Automatic (delayed).
    • Run "Services.msc" in Start menu.
