Venus 7000 using A-2576 computer will not boot up past black Daktronics splash screen

Potential Symptoms

  • Venus 7000 computer will not boot past the black splash screen that says Daktronics in the lower right hand corner.
  • The amber hard drive activity light is off or has very little activity while the splash screen is stuck.

Environment

  • Venus 7000
  • Windows XP
  • A-2576 Computer
  • 2 internal hard drives in RAID 1 (mirrored) configuration

Cause

  • Failure or corruption of one of the hard drives.

Resolution

  1. Open the computer and disconnect the power and SATA cables from one of the hard drives.
  2. Attempt to reboot the system. If it boots normally, replace the disconnected hard drive with a new one and rebuild the RAID to the new disk.
  3. If the system still does not boot, repeat the process, swapping which drive is disconnected.
  4. If neither drive will boot the system alone, the computer will have to be sent in for R&R.
