Error updating database (SQLCMD error code: 1) during first time install of Venus 1500 v4.22.0 or Vanguard 4.24.

Potential Symptoms

  • Install of Daktronics product (Venus 1500 v4.22.0) fails during updating database with SQLCMD returned error code: 1.

  • AND last line in Nucleus Database (dbo) v1.log states CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.

  • Component: Manual install of SQL Server 2014 (either first time or re-install)

Cause

  • Forgetting to add "BUILTIIN\Administrators" group during manual installation of SQL Server 2014.

Resolution

IMPORTANT: SQL Server (NUCLEUS) service needs to be started in order for this resolution to properly function. By default it is started, but you will get an error after step 2 is performed if it is not started.

    Note: If installing on a French OS use Administrateurs for Administrators.
    1. Launch the Command Prompt (right click and select "Run as administrator").

    1. Type "SQLCMD -S (local)\NUCLEUS" and press enter.

    1. Type "CREATE LOGIN [BUILTIN\Administrators] FROM WINDOWS" and press enter.
    2. Type "GO" and press enter.
    3. Type "ALTER SERVER ROLE sysadmin ADD MEMBER [BUILTIN\Administrators]" and press enter.
    4. Type GO and press enter.

           7. Run the Venus 1500 v4.22 installer again.

    NOTE: Default for installer adds only current user, accordingly the following must be done by the user who installed SQL Server.
