Error when installing Venus 1500 V4.18 or higher, "Database 'Nucleus Database' already exists. Choose a different database name; Nucleus Database corrupt

Potential Symptoms

  • Error in Nucleus install logs after erroring out during install "Database 'Nucleus Database' already exists. Choose a different database name".
  • Install of Daktronics product (Venus 1500 v4.22.0) fails during updating database with SQLCMD returned error code: 1.

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Daktronics\Nucleus Server\Logs\Install\Nucleus Database (dbo) v1.log shows error "Database 'Nucleus Database' already exists. Choose a different database name".

Cause

  • Nucleus database had corrupted during a previous installation.

Resolution

Use these steps for instances using SQL2008.

  1. Uninstall Venus 1500, Fusion, and DataServer if present, follow: How to uninstall Venus 1500 V4
  2. Uninstall SQL Server 2008 and all components by following How to remove/uninstall SQL Server 2005, 2008 or 2014.
  3. Manually reinstall SQL Server 2008. Follow: How to Install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Manually for Venus 1500 v4 or Vanguard v4
  4. Install Venus 1500 V4.

Use these steps for instances using SQL2014.

  1. Uninstall Venus 1500, Fusion, and DataServer if present, follow: How to uninstall Venus 1500 V4
  2. Uninstall SQL Server 2014 and all components by following How to remove/uninstall SQL Server 2005, 2008 or 2014.
  3. Manually reinstall SQL Server 2014. Follow: How to install Microsoft SQL Server 2014 manually .
  4. Install Venus 1500 V4.
