Unable to launch Venus 1500 V4 on a Windows 10 computer; stays on initial Venus startup splash screen and does not error out

Potential Symptoms

  • Venus 1500 V4 will not launch on Windows 10.
  • When Venus 1500 V4 is launched it will display the initial startup splash page, but will not error out or go to the login screen.
  • On a new installation of Venus 1500 V4 it may launch once but when closed will not re-open.
  • No recent errors in Venus 1500 V4 logs, Nucleus logs, or Fusion logs.
  • Venus 1500 V4 shows that it is running in Processes tab of Windows Task Manager, but is taking up 50% of CPU's processing power.
  • Error "Venus by Daktronics has stopped working, sorry for the inconvenience", fatal error.

Cause

  • Venus 1500 V4 is set to compatibility mode within Venus 1500 Properties.

Resolution

  • Disable compatibility mode for Venus 1500 V4.
    • How to enable or disable compatibility mode for Venus 1500 V4, DD3159196.
      • If the Compatibility Mode section is selected, but is grayed out, then please follow instructions below:
        1. Click on Change settings for all users at the bottom of the compatibility tab in Venus 1500 V4 Properties.
        2. In the Compatibility Mode section of the window, uncheck Run this program in compatibility mode for: and then click OK.
        3. In the main Compatibility tab, verify Compatibility Mode section is now adjustable and unchecked. 
        4. If Run this program in compatibility mode for: is still selected, then uncheck it and then click OK.
  • Make sure Venus software is up to date at the latest version.
    • Follow DD1993540 on how to update Venus 1500 v4 to the latest available version.
