Display: Blank, no boot up; Incoming power issue

Potential Symptoms

  • Display is totally blank.
  • There is no boot up when power is cycled to the display and no heartbeat.
  • No fan noise can be heard.
  • No voltage is measured at the controller, the modules, or the transformer.
  • Display will not play test patterns and breakers are all confirmed to be ON.
  • When measuring incoming power, there is 120 VAC between the Hot and the Ground, but there is 0 voltage between Hot and Neutral.
    • There is no primary incoming power to the display power panel.
  • Visible damage is seen to the conduit for the power lines that go to the sign.
  • For Venus Control Suite (VCS) controlled displays, the dashboard may show both DMP and VIP are Online and content IS scrolling.

Cause

  • Issue with incoming power to display Power Termination Panel.
    • Main power lines providing power to the display are damaged or ends not properly stripped.
    • For new installations an example includes only having a single line of 120 VAC run to the display when 2 lines of 120 VAC are required.
  • Note: Power requirements will vary depending on display model, size, and color. Please refer to Display Manual for requirements for the specific display you are working with.

Resolution

  • Contact an Electrician to correct or repair the cabling to restore power to the display.
