Steps
1. Create a Notepad File
1. Create a file in notepad.
2. Enter the information to be displayed on each line. Use a new line for separate item, data element, etc. The amount of characters is determined in the line length. It is advised to use no more than 20 characters per line.
3. Save the notepad file on the data drive of the V-Play.
For example D:\V-Play\RTD\FileRTD.TXT
2. Configure the RTD Input in the Daktronics Communication Server
1. Open the DCS (Dak Communications Server) by clicking on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Select Dak Communications Server.
2. From the main interface, click on ports in the left hand column.
3. Double-click on port 10 or another open port to configure.
Name the Port (File RTD)
Type: File

4. With the Input tab selected, click on the browse icon next to Path and navigate to the notepad file saved in above steps.

5. Check the Text Mode box.
For Line Length, enter 20.
6. Select OK.

3. Create DataCaster File RTD Content
1. Open DataCaster from the shortcut on the Desktop or by going to Start > Programs > Daktronics > DataCaster > DataCaster.
2. Create a new file. Select File, select New.
The New File dialog box appears. Choose an existing template from the Templates folder. Typically, users will choose the NTSC Video template. Click OK.3. To enter the information from the notepad file, drag and drop a Text Box onto the slide from the menu along the right.
4. With the text box selected, click on the Data tab under the Properties at the bottom of the screen.
5. Select RTD
Select the input configured in the above procedure (Port 10 in this example).

6. Enter the Item Number based on which line of data you wish to grab from the notepad file.
Line 1 = Item 1
Line 2 = Item 21
Line 3 = Item 41
Line 4 = Item 61 and so on

7. Enter the length of the characters in the field up to a maximum of 20 characters. Users may choose 20 every time
as a default if items in the notepad file will vary in character length.
8. Once completed, save the file and create as a button.
9. To update any File RTD fields, open the notepad file. Make the necessary changes, ensuring not to add any more than 20 characters per line. Data will change in real time on the File RTD.dtc file.
