Unable to install Venus 1500 V4, SQL failed to install, C drive is compressed.

Potential Symptoms

  • Unable to install Venus 1500 V4 software, get an error that SQL failed.
  • Unable to install SQL manually, Get an Attribute error (directory, compressed), (compressed, encrypted).
  • SQL error interrupting Display Studio installation and giving the following message: "SQL SERVER SETUP CANNOT INSTALL FILES TO THE COMPRESSED OR ENCRYPTED FOLDER: C:/PROGRAM FILES/. TO CONTINUE, MAKE SURE THAT YOUR INSTALLATION DIRECTORIES ARE NOT COMPRESSED OR ENCRYPTED, OR SPECIFY A DIFFERENT DIRECTORY, AND THEN RUN SQL SERVER SETUP AGAIN."

Cause

  • The C: drive on the computer is compressed.
    • Compressed files will show as blue text.

Resolution

  1. Uncompress the C: drive
    1. Right click on the C: drive and select Properties.
    2. Under the General tab look at the bottom for a check in the Compress this drive to save space box.
    3. Uncheck Compress drive to save disk space.
    4. Choose Apply then Ok.
  2. After the drive is uncompressed retry to install Venus 1500 V4 software.
