How to stream video from another computer onto my video display

Topic

  • Can I show a YouTube video, web pages, Apple TV (IPad via AirPlay to AppleTV), Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, Skype video calls, etc... up on my video display?

Environment

  • Product Family: Video- DVX, DVN, etc.
  • Products: DMP-8000, Possible NewTek TriCaster
  • Components:  Blackmagic video capture device (e.g. Intensity Pro, Shuttle, Intensity Extreme)
  • Control System:

Steps

Yes.  Content from a video source such as AppleTV can be used on your display. The setup will differ depending on your system.

Systems using TriCasters can be plugged directly in to display content from a separate video.  See the details listed below for the setup process. Note, content with HDCP encrypted content will not play.

TriCaster Systems

TriCaster 8000, 860, 460, 410 Manual:  TriCaster Professional User Guide

  • See section 4.6 and Chapter 16 for using network sources (i.e. any computer on the same subnet as the TriCaster) and using the iVGA software (must be copied from TriCaster machine and installed on computer that is to be a network source)
    • Note: audio can also be transmitted over the network.
    • Use the legacy version for 32 bit clients (e.g. Windows XP computers are almost always 32 bit)
  • For Apple AirPlay devices see section 16.2

TriCaster Studio Models (e.g. TC350) Manual:  TriCaster Studio User Guide (English)

  •  See section 6.9.1 and 11.3 in the manual.
Systems using without TriCasters will need a DMP with video capture card.  See the details listed below for the setup process. Note, content with HDCP encrypted content will not play.

Non-TriCaster Systems- DMP with video capture card

  1. Connect computer directly to Blackmagic video capture device.
    1. Set your computer/laptop monitor to duplicate display.
    2. Resolution may need to be adjusted (e.g. 1280x720).
    3. Connect computer/laptop to the DMP's Blackmagic video capture device.
      1. VGA HDMI, DP, or DVI out may work depending on the system.
  2. Configure the capture card
    1. Depending on signal type and incoming resolution, a VMPL  may need to modified.- See How to get video into DMP-8000 (VNet)
    2. Create a button in Show Control to play the VMPL .

A second DMP can be used to push data as a "confidence monitor".
